On the occasion of the month of Ramadan, a month of Mercy and Spiritual Reflection, the Foundation is pleased to announce the start of Fasting will be on Monday 6th May 2019.
Almost 2 billion Muslims across the world will be fasting from sunrise to sunset without food and water. They will be following the words of God in the Quran that invokes them to do this.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ
O you who believe! fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may guard (against evil).
شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ هُدًى لِّلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَاتٍ مِّنَ الْهُدَىٰ وَالْفُرْقَانِ فَمَن شَهِدَ مِنكُمُ الشَّهْرَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ وَمَن كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِّنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ بِكُمُ الْيُسْرَ وَلَا يُرِيدُ بِكُمُ الْعُسْرَ وَلِتُكْمِلُوا الْعِدَّةَ وَلِتُكَبِّرُوا اللَّهَ عَلَىٰ مَا هَدَاكُمْ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ
The month of Ramadan is that in which the Quran was revealed, a guidance to men and clear proofs of the guidance and the distinction; therefore whoever of you is present in the month, he shall fast therein, and whoever is sick or upon a journey, then (he shall fast) a (like) number of other days; Allah desires ease for you, and He does not desire for you difficulty, and (He desires) that you should complete the number and that you should exalt the greatness of Allah for His having guided you and that you may give thanks.
There are in the same verses dispensations for those who are ill, infirm and the weak.
The month of Ramadan to Muslims is a month of self reflection, doing good deeds and giving generously in charity.
The Foundation asks that in the true spirit of Ramadan the poor and downtrodden be remembered through charitable deeds and that humanity not forget those that are suffering unbearable hardships through war, famine and other man made and natural disasters. It remains all of our collective responsibility to prevent and resolve conflict and to look after those less fortunate than us. We hope this month will unite us all in doing good and helping those in need, whilst enabling all of us to work hard to resolve conflicts that adversely affect precious lives.
